What People Say

Most Liked

Frequent diners rave about the Hapa Plate, which combines the rich flavors of pastele, gandule rice, and bacalao salad into one satisfying meal. Many customers appreciate the generous portions for the reasonable prices; it's not uncommon to leave feeling like you've indulged without breaking the bank. The empanadas also receive notable mentions, with various fillings that keep patrons coming back for more.

The staff's friendliness stands out, emanating a vibe that makes guests feel welcomed and at home. Patrons share anecdotes about thoughtful recommendations and the personable nature of the service, often describing their interactions as if they were chatting with family.

The casual, trendy atmosphere enhances the dining experience, making it an excellent spot for solo lunches or casual meals with friends. Plus, the emphasis on comfort food makes WAT GET KITCHEN a go-to for those needing a hearty meal that feels nostalgic yet freshly prepared.

Most Disliked

A common critique revolves around the limited seating available, particularly for those wanting to dine on-site. With only outdoor seating offered, it can be a challenge during peak hours or inclement weather. Some diners also report longer wait times on busier days, so patience is key when visiting.

Additionally, the cash-only payment policy can catch newcomers off guard, leading to inconvenience. While many regulars appreciate this approach, it might deter first-time visitors unfamiliar with the setup.

Lastly, the hours of operation pose a challenge for some, as WAT GET KITCHEN keeps relatively strict hours. For those with packed schedules, it may not always be possible to swing by during open hours, limiting opportunities to enjoy the delicious offerings.

Don’t come here if you are looking for ambience and mediocre food! DO come here if you are craving delicious pastele & gandule rice! Pricing is fair for the hefty plate. Healthy alternative for me & my keiki especially for what’s in the area! Remember cash only! Plan to order over the phone, pull up, pay & hele to the park near by (plantation village) to enjoy! Lady at the counter (sorry I forgot her name) was nice & super helpful recommending other small businesses in the area! Please remember this is a small business..that means consider a wait time longer than 10 mins & say Mahalo when you receive good service!

**CASH ONLY** Finally got to try this place in Waipahu since heard good things about them and WOW..... This place is one of the best on island for Puerto Rican food🤙🤙 Located near the Waipahu Bus Depot, its a take out only restaurant with some outdoor seats. Came when it almost closed so there waa no Mac salad already, so ordered the Hapa Plate that came with Gandule Rice, Pastele and Bacalao Salad. Food was legot and worth the price. Too bad the hours are tough for me to come more often.... Highly recommend if youre in the Waipahu area🤙🤙

My cousin & I were waiting for the bus across the street & saw 'empanadas' written in the front, the Hispanic in me told to run over there to get some. We ordered gandule rice & pasteles & wow that was amazing, tasted just like my culture. Staff was great, I was short a dollar or 2 & the employee at the front told me it was ok & gave my food anyways 😭 I will return for more!!

Very delicious Puerto Rican food, every time I get the Hapa Plate which has Pastele Gandule Rice and Bakalau Salad, ONO BRAH!

Anytime I’m in Waipahu I try to stop by and get some Wat Get. Pateles, gandule rice, bacalao salad - perfectly balanced meal, each packed with amazing flavors. Service is always amazing as well. They treat you like family that welcomed you into their own kitchen. It’s nice to be able to see into their kitchen and see where the food is made. Took my meal to go (saving it for dinner). They made sure to let me know the best way to reheat and serve it. Gave recommendations for what to do with leftovers (no shame, grab extra). Explained to me a little history behind Puerto Rican food in Hawaii. Sorry not better pictures, we just ate it all too quick.

Wat Get has awesome pastele plates! The Hapa plate has Gandule rice, Bacalao salad and a pastele. So far everyone I know who has tried it, has loved it! There is no real seating except for 2 stools at an outside counter. It is well worth the trip to Waipahu (if you are not already there).

Excellent food! I dream about the gandule rice. The proprietor is a great guy -- always enjoy the banter.
